Vendors up in arms with LCC over relocations

Africa-Press – Zambia. Illegal vendors in Lusaka’s Central Business District have vowed to stay put after the local authority petitioned them to get off the streets. The Lusaka City Council which recently issued a communique ordering vendors off the streets says it would want to restore sanity in the city.

However, the vendors are vowing that they are not going anywhere, unless LCC provides alternative places for them to relocate to. Vendors have been accused of defacing the city as they operate from undesignated places without proper facilities like toilets and clean water. The authorities maintain that this is a health hazard, but the vendors say it is their only source of livelihoods.
