10 ‘Geza protest’ ex-combatants denied bail

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. THE 10 ex-combatants, who were arrested for preparing to participate in a demonstration called by war veteran and former Zanu PF central committee member, Blessed “Bombshell” Geza, were denied bail when they appeared before Harare magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai yesterday.

Rose Chirenje (65) and others are facing charges of participating in a gathering to promote public violence.

Kuhudzai remanded the ex-combatants in custody to November 10 pending finalisation of investigations.

It is alleged that on October 17, Chirenje and her accomplices connived to incite the public to participate in a public gathering which had been called by Geza under the One Million Men March banner.

The march was in protest against President Emmerson Mnangagwa, whom they accuse of betraying the people of Zimbabwe by aligning himself with zvigananda (leeches).

According to the State, the 10 ex-combatants accuse Mnangagwa of presiding over corruption, looting, formalisation of thievery in the public sector as well as allowing the brutal mutilation of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

The protest supposed to be held at Robert Gabriel Mugabe Square.

After Geza called the protest, the 10 ex-combatants allegedly converged at corner George Silundika Avenue and Sam Nujoma Street in Harare near Africa Unity Square intending to participate in the march.

The State alleges that during the gathering, Chirenje and nine others were singing and dancing.

The court also heard that after arresting the ex-combatants, detectives found some stones and other different missiles hidden around the crime scene.
