Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has warned of continued unsettled conditions after rainfall and thunderstorms battered parts of the country over the weekend.

According to a bulletin released on Sunday, 30 November, the most severe downpours were recorded in Manicaland Province, where Chipinge received a staggering 97 mm of rain, followed by Mutema with 62 mm and Bwerudza with 42 mm.

Other notable rainfall figures included Matopos (41 mm), Mukandi (37 mm), Wedza (26 mm), and Mvurwi (21 mm), while the rest of the country saw less than 20 mm.

On Sunday morning, most regions were mostly cloudy and warm, although western areas experienced clearer skies.

Isolated thundershowers developed later in the evening, prompting renewed warnings about lightning and hail. T

he department urged residents to seek shelter immediately when thunder roars, avoid open fields and water bodies, and remain indoors for at least 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder.

Looking ahead to Monday, 01 December, the forecast indicates partly cloudy and mild conditions in the morning across Midlands, Masvingo, Manicaland, Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Harare Metropolitan, and all Mashonaland Provinces. These areas are expected to become mostly cloudy and warm in the afternoon, with scattered thunderstorms likely.

Heavy rainfall and hail are particularly probable in Mashonaland East and the northern parts of Manicaland. Matabeleland North is expected to remain partly cloudy and warm throughout the day, with mild spells in the morning and evening.

The outlook for Tuesday, 02 December, suggests continued instability. Harare Metropolitan, Midlands, northern Manicaland, Matabeleland North, and all Mashonaland Provinces will experience partly cloudy and mild mornings, transitioning to mostly cloudy and warm afternoons with scattered thunderstorms and localised heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland South, Masvingo, and southern Manicaland will see partly cloudy and warm conditions, with a chance of isolated thundery showers and mild temperatures persisting overnight.
