Magnitude 4.0 Earthquake Strikes Near Chiredzi

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. A moderate magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck approximately 80 kilometres from Chiredzi in Masvingo Province at 12:02 PM on Sunday, 30 November 2025.

According to Volcano Discovery, the depth of the tremor could not be confirmed, but it is believed to have been shallow.

The nearest major town where the quake may have been felt is Masvingo, located about 88 kilometres west of the epicentre, where residents likely experienced very weak shaking. Several smaller towns and villages situated closer to the epicentre may have felt stronger tremors.

In Harare, roughly 285 kilometres away, the earthquake was not felt.

This was the strongest earthquake to affect this part of Zimbabwe in more than 19 years.

The last recorded quake of comparable or greater strength in the area was a magnitude 4.3 event on 22 June 2006, occurring 72 kilometres northeast of Chiredzi at 3:27 PM local time.
