2 Zanu PF officials nabbed over shady land deals

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Two senior Zanu PF officials based in Hopley have been arrested by detectives from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) for allegedly defrauding home seekers in a land scandal estimated at nearly US$1.5 million.

The suspects — Phinias Muchichwa (41), who serves as the Zanu PF dhairman for the Godfrey Chidyausiku District, and Anderson Frendson (37), the party’s branch chief security for the Josiah Magama Branch — are accused of illegally parcelling out and selling privately-owned land to unsuspecting buyers.

According to ZACC spokesperson Simiso Mlevu, the two allegedly subdivided 9.3473 hectares in Tariro Township, Hopley, owned by Sunshine (Pvt) Ltd, and sold over 200 residential stands at US$300 each.

The accused allegedlytargeted fellow party members and other desperate home seekers in the area, capitalising on the acute housing shortage in Harare.

Muchichwa and Frendson are expected to appear in court on Monday to face fraud charges.

ZACC said investigations are ongoing, with more arrests expected as more victims come forward.

Sunshine Developments (Pvt) Ltd has not yet issued a public statement on the matter.
