Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Mt Darwin based side Agama FC handed flamboyant side N’ombeyawora their first defeat of the season to go top of the Northern Region Soccer League standings after a hard fought home victory at Pfura stadium on Wednesday.

Former Harare City and Herentals striker Grey Kufandada scored the only goal of the match after just nine minutes which was enough for Agama to get the three points.

Owned by Scott Sakupwanya, N’ombeyawora dominated possession but failed to fashion any genuine goal scoring chances.

It was N’ombeyawora’s first defeat in eight matches and it ultimately cost them the top spot which they occupied ahead of the midweek fixtures.

Agama climbed to the top of the standings with 16 points from eight matches.

They will be looking to become the first team from Mt Darwin to gain promotion into the top flight league.

Coach Arthur Tutani was delighted with the win.

“It was a very, very good result and I think we’ll keep working well. What I can simply say, the sky is the limit. But we have got the manpower, the resources, and I hope we’ll keep on grinding good results. It’s work in progress. We’ll keep on working well until we get to Canaan. The men have got experience, they are experienced enough getting the team promoted in the Premier League,” he said.

N’ombeyawora coach Nesbert Saruchera felt his team played well but missed a lot of chances.

“We played very well but we missed a lot of chances it was not our day. We need to go back to the drawing board and make sure we bounce back in quick time. We need to quickly bounce back if we are to be considered serious championship material,” he said.

It was a day on which Zambezi G & C FC , who went into the match day fixtures joint top, lost away at Trojan Stars.

Title contenders Harare City and Black Rhinos played a goalless draw in Harare while Chinhoyi Rangers are set to host Ngezi Platinum Under-19 Chinhoyi today.
