Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Five armed robbers raided a bakery in Harare’s Graniteside industrial area on Sunday, getting away with US$8,400 in cash and several cellphones.
The gang arrived at the premises in a Hino truck inscribed with the words “Mudhara Abva Kusvika”. One of the men posed as a customer wanting to buy cakes, but as soon as he entered the bakery, five others armed with knives and machetes jumped out from the back of the vehicle. All were wearing face masks.
The robbers attacked the owner, Richard Zhao (45), and his five employees before seizing the cash and mobile phones.
They then damaged the bakery’s CCTV system and locked the victims inside the warehouse before fleeing the scene.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the incident. He said:
“Police are investigating an armed robbery case in Graniteside. Total amount stolen is US$8,400.”
