Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Five machete-wielding robbers raided Riplemade Farm in Rusape on Monday night, getting away with 12 bales of tobacco valued at US$7,039.
Manicaland Acting Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident, which occurred around 10 PM.
According to police, Simbarashe Kamunhukamwe (38), a security guard at the farm, was ambushed while in a room on the premises.The suspects, who were all wearing balaclavas, stabbed him once in the back, tied his hands and legs, and covered him with a sack.
It is alleged that the robbers took Kamunhukamwe’s Itel P36 cellphone and the farm keys before assaulting him.
One of the attackers remained behind to guard the injured guard while the others proceeded to loot the property.
The robbers reportedly used an unidentified vehicle to load 12 bales of tobacco from one of the grading sheds and fled the scene, leaving Kamunhukamwe bound and injured.
Despite his injuries, Kamunhukamwe managed to hop to the home of a nearby resident, Uriri Uriri, and reported the incident.
The matter was subsequently reported to Rusape Urban Police Station.
As of now, no arrests have been made and nothing has been recovered. Police investigations are ongoing.
