Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. A 26-YEAR-OLD Budiriro man appeared before Harare Magistrate Musaiona Shotgame facing fraud and forgery charges after allegedly posing as a registered legal practitioner to scam a client.
The suspect, Prosper Tapiwa Manyagadze, was remanded in custody to today pending bail application.
The State alleges that sometime in April 2025 in Harare, the accused person misrepresented to the complainant that he was a practising lawyer registered with the Law Society of Zimbabwe.
Acting upon the misrepresentation, the complainant engaged Manyangadze to provide legal services to recover a US$3 000 debt.
He was given the money after misrepresenting that it was for legal fees and other associated payments at the High Court.
The complainant later discovered that Manyagadze was not a lawyer and that the court documents he furnished were fraudulent.
On the forgery count it is alleged that Manyangadze on May 12 this year, affixed a counterfeit High Court date stamp and fake court case number HCH482/25 to court documents.
According to court papers, Manyangadze then allegedly presented the fraudulent documents to the complainant, misrepresenting that the complainant’s case was before High Court judge Justice Dube-Banda.
