Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Harare Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a Chinese national to 18 years in prison for unlawfully dealing in wildlife.

Cong Yanzhong, 57, who resides in Harare, was convicted on two counts of illegal wildlife trading.

The case follows a tip-off to police on 16 July 2025, alleging that Yanzhong was involved in illegal wildlife dealings.

Acting on the information, detectives tracked him and found him carrying a black satchel and a brown carrier bag matching the description from the informant.

Upon searching him, police discovered three shrink-wrapped rhinoceros horns weighing 7.7 kilograms, valued at around US$240,000.

Yanzhong could not produce a permit or licence for the horns and was immediately arrested.

A subsequent search of his residence uncovered four pieces of raw ivory weighing 36.15 kilograms, valued at approximately US$6,146.
