City of Harare Mulls 24-Hour Parking Fee Enforcement in CBD

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The City of Harare is reportedly considering the introduction of 24-hour parking fee enforcement, although discussions are still at a preliminary stage.

At present, motorists are only required to pay parking fees in the Central Business District (CBD) between 8 AM and 4 PM.

However, concerns have been raised by city officials over persistent traffic congestion within the CBD, prompting talks of extending the paid parking hours into the night.

According to H-Metro, a source within the local authority confirmed that the idea is under consideration as part of broader efforts to manage urban traffic flow more effectively. Said the source:

This will not only cover parking but it will also see our municipal officers also remaining active on duty in the city throughout the night. The city does not stop functioning after 5 PM.

There are a lot of activities which happen after 5 PM and we feel that our municipal officers should be active during that period. The same goes for parking.

It’s not like parking ends at 4 PM and enforcement, making sure that the bays that are being used after 4 PM, is our responsibility and there could be changes.

Repeated efforts to obtain a comment from Harare City spokesperson Stan Gama were unsuccessful as of Sunday night.
