Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe recorded increases in several communicable diseases during the week ending 23 November 2025, although no deaths were reported across all conditions under surveillance, according to the latest Weekly Disease Surveillance Report from the Ministry of Health and Childcare.

The ministry reported 601 malaria cases for the week, with children under five accounting for nearly 10% of infections. Mashonaland Central and Manicaland remained the hardest-hit provinces, recording 218 and 176 cases respectively. The cumulative national tally for malaria now stands at 156,010 cases and 429 deaths since the beginning of the year.

Common diarrhoea continues to affect thousands, with 5,132 cases reported during the same period. Children under five made up 42% of these cases, highlighting ongoing concerns about water safety and sanitation. Mashonaland West led the figures with 868 cases, followed closely by Manicaland with 802. Cumulative diarrhoea cases now stand at 311,621, with 166 deaths recorded so far this year.

Suspected influenza cases also remained high, with 4,440 cases reported nationwide and no associated deaths. Mashonaland West and Manicaland again topped the list, each reporting more than 1,300 cases. The cumulative influenza count now stands at 311,255 cases and seven deaths.

In addition, the country recorded 347 dysentery cases, split evenly between Mashonaland West and Manicaland, which each reported 47 cases. No deaths were reported, and national cumulative figures now stand at 15,725 cases and six deaths.

Dog bites remain a public health concern, with 592 cases reported during the week. Most of the victims—65%—were bitten by dogs whose vaccination status was unknown. A further 19% were attacked by unvaccinated dogs, while 16% were bitten by vaccinated animals. Masvingo reported the highest number of incidents at 97, followed by Mashonaland West with 89. The cumulative dog bite tally has now reached 24,799 cases and three deaths.

Meanwhile, ten anthrax cases were detected, with the majority reported in Midlands Province’s Gokwe North and Gokwe South districts, while one case came from Sanyati in Mashonaland West. No deaths were recorded, and the cumulative figure remains relatively low at 189 cases and zero fatalities.
