Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. DESPITE their struggles in the Premier League campaign, Highlanders coach Pieter De Jongh is optimistic about outclassing Herentals College FC in the upcoming rescheduled Chibuku Super Cup first round match at Nyamhunga Stadium on Sunday.

De Jongh acknowledges his team is the underdog but hopes to defy the odds.

“It’s a tough game because it’s an away game. Of course, the favourite is Herentals,” he stated.

“If you look at their season, where they are and how many points they have.”

However, this doesn’t deter the coach’s optimism.

“In football, anything is possible,” De Jongh said.

“It’s 90 minutes, and there will be a winner.

“If there’s no winner, it goes to a shootout. Let’s see what we can do.

“We’re going for it. We try to win every game.”

For the ninth-ranked Highlanders, winning the Chibuku Cup could serve as a valuable consolation.

The club last won the cup in 2019.

De Jongh reflected on what a victory would mean: “I’ve won the Super Cup before, along with many other cups in other countries.

“It’s not about me; it’s about the club, for the fans.”

The team will travel to Kariba today.

Tomorrow will be rest day, with a short training session planned before their Sunday clash.

The team has been holding two training sessions per day to prepare.

De Jongh also provided an update on the team’s fitness.

“We have injuries. We need to get updates from the medical staff,” he said.

“What I can say is that not every player is available. We have three or four injuries.”

Highlanders will play Herentals this Sunday at 3pm at Nyamhunga Stadium, but before that, ZPC Kariba face Chicken Inn tomorrow at the same venue.
