A campaign dubbed “ZimBho”, which is aimed at tapping into the domestic tourism market has been launched in Kariba, amid glitz and glamour.

The ZimBho brand designed by the tourism promotion body and Zimtrade is premised on a street lingo which translates to ‘Zimbabwe is good’ and the Minister of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Honourable Mangaliso Ndlovu said the government will continue to seek ways of ensuring the tourism package is affordable.
“The Government will continue looking at ways to make tourism affordable to the national ls and expects to see such incentives translating to price reductions for the sector for the benefit of the nationals,” he said.

“The cost of hospitality remains high to this stage. I am concerned that rates charged by hotels and lodges in Zimbabwe are still very high. It is disturbing that an average breakfast cost 25 USD or more in our hotel. That’s the price of a goat. Surely that cannot be justified.”

The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa who was present at the launch commended efforts to promote domestic tourism.

“The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority you are doing a good job. Wherever you go in China you see the Chinese people visiting their tourism attractions,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

“What you are doing is very good. That’s where patriotism starts. We want our people to be proud of what God gave us. These are natural resources which God gave to Zimbabweans.”

The Minister of State for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Mary Mliswa and Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Acting Chief Executive Officer, Givemore Chidzidzi spoke on the benefits the country is set to accrue from the campaign and the need for stakeholders’ support.
