Dorothy Mabika Elected ZANU PF Women’s League Chairperson

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Dorothy Mabika has been elected chairperson of the ZANU PF Manicaland Women’s League following elections held in Mutare on Sunday.

The polls were held after the ZANU PF commissariat nullified the previous elections conducted in April. Party members reconvened in Mutare to vote for a new provincial leader of the women’s wing.

Mabika secured victory with 23 votes, defeating Mercy Sacco, who garnered 16.

ZANU PF National Political Commissar, Munyaradzi Machacha, who presided over the election, described the process as peaceful and a great success. Said Machacha:

We were instructed to come and redo the election for the chairwoman. We have just concluded that task with Mabika emerging as the winner. Our results are going to be presented to the Politburo for endorsement.

But so far, everything has gone smoothly, and we hope that from now going forward, Manicaland and the league will be united. We should focus more on organising and growing the party’s support base.

The figures were 23 for Mabika and 16 for Sacco, both women demonstrating that they have a following in the executive and deserve respect.

Both ladies should now work together to unite the people as Chairwoman and Vice Chairperson to make sure that they unite the entire women’s League and concentrate on programmes that empower women in Manicaland.

Mabika pledged to work diligently to unite and empower women across Manicaland following her victory.

The Manicaland Women’s League now awaits formal endorsement of the results by the ZANU PF Politburo.

The position had remained vacant since the suspension of former provincial chairperson Happiness Nyakuedzwa in 2024.

Although elections were initially held in April 2025, no official winner was declared, as the party’s commissariat nullified the results, citing irregularities.

During that earlier contest, Sacco emerged as a strong contender and had been serving as acting chairperson following Nyakuedzwa’s suspension.

However, with the April results rendered invalid, the post remained officially unfilled until the re-run held on Sunday.
