Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. A 25-YEAR-OLD Marlborough man appeared in court over the weekend facing rape charges involving two young women, one of whom is reportedly the daughter of a government minister.
The alleged assaults occurred following a trip to Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport on May 7 this year.
The accused, Prince Dzingai, is alleged to have assaulted two girls, one of whom is reportedly his girlfriend, who had accompanied their cousin and aunt to the airport.
Harare regional magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa remanded Dzingai in custody to May 26 pending finalisation of investigations.
According to prosecutor Shambadzeni Fungura, the first complainant intended to meet her cousin so that they could accompany their aunt to the airport.
The trio picked up Dzingai at Westgate Mall who was reportedly in possession of a green plastic bag containing a takeaway meal, a bottle of Russian Bear Vodka and a one-litre bottle of ginger ale.
During the drive, the court heard that Dzingai mixed the Vodka with the soft drink and offered the cocktail to the first complainant, who took a few sips but found it unusually strong and refrained from drinking.
After seeing off their aunt at the airport, the trio returned to Westgate and later went to a house reportedly belonging to Dzingai’s acquaintance.
The first complainant alleges that she was pressured into consuming more alcohol, including a second bottle of Vodka, brandy and an energy drink that had an unusual taste.
As the evening progressed, the first complainant was allegedly intoxicated to the extent of losing track of events.
However, she recalls the time Dzingai made sexual advances towards her, which escalated to rape, despite her protests that she was menstruating.
Following the alleged assault, Dzingai is also accused forcing himself on the second complainant before returning to the first complainant and allegedly raping her again.
The State alleges that a police report was made the following morning.
