Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. THE Harare-Mazowe Road dualisation has commenced with contractors now firmly on the ground.
The project is set to significantly improve traffic flow, reduce travel times, and enhance road safety along one of the country’s busiest routes.
The provincial internal and external affairs representative, Shakemore Mabharani, said the project was long overdue.
“This is more than just a road; it is a foundation for economic growth and progress,” Mabharani said during a tour of the project.
“We have seen far too many accidents on this stretch. This development will save lives and stimulate investment.”
He said the road would enhance connectivity between Harare, Mazowe, and surrounding areas, unlocking new opportunities in agriculture, commerce and tourism.
Mashonaland Central National Youth Service provincial commander, Philip Samanje, echoed similar sentiments.
“Improved infrastructure means improved access to markets, to jobs and to training centres. As young people, we are encouraged when we see tangible development taking place,” he said.
The head of Graigen Grower Secondary School, Grace Chivhu, said dualisation of the road would improve safety for learners and teachers who use the road regularly.
“Our school has had its share of difficulties because of the traffic hazards on this road. This project brings hope for safer travel and better access to essential services like education and healthcare,” she said.
Zimbabwe’s road network has faced considerable challenges, stemming from funding constraints and inadequate maintenance.
