Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. POLICE in the Midlands province have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred in Mabhena village near Mabandla business centre in Lower Gweru.

Midlands province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident which occurred on August 12.

“The suspect, identified as David Musani Moyo, allegedly stabbed the victim once in the chest following a confrontation. Reports indicate that the dispute began after the victim attempted to stop Moyo from hurling vulgar insults in public,” Mahoko said.

He said the victim died from the stab wound and Moyo was taken into police custody shortly after the incident.

Meanwhile, five men from Ntulula in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North province, have appeared in court facing attempted murder. Their victim is a fellow villager.

Two of the five, Comfort Dube (22) and Qhubekani Moyo (36), pleaded guilty to the charge and have been convicted and jailed fives year each.

Bulawayo regional magistrate Mark Dzira told the two that they committed a serious offence by assaulting Roderick Ndlovu, causing him injuries, particularly to the head, which is a sensitive area.

Dube and Qhubekani expressed remorse for their actions and pleaded with the magistrate to consider community service rather than incarceration.

“I will not grant you community service. You will be taken into custody. You are sentenced to five years imprisonment,” the magistrate said.

Nkosiphile Moyo (27), Khuzani Ncube (35) and Passmore Tshuma (24) pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and the matter was postponed to a later date for further hearing.

The court was told that on April 26 at Ntulula business centre, the five allegedly assaulted Ndlovu, leaving him unconscious.

The attack was brutal, with the accused using knobkerries and golf sticks to inflict serious injuries.

Ndlovu was subjected to a severe beating, resulting in serious injuries that left him unconscious.

He regained consciousness at Mpilo Central Hospital.
