Opposition MDC youths aligned to Thokozani Khupe reportedly tried and failed to take over Morgan Tsvangirai House, formerly called Harvest House, which is the party Headquarters.
Daily News was told by Chalton Hwnde that the alleged takeover was not successful due to police interference. Speaking to the publication, Hwende said:
A group of unruly youths came with the Supreme Court judgment court saying the Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House now belongs to Douglas Mwonzora and his team, but before they try to do so the police arrived. I spoke with them, they said they came to see what was happening. The police boss was very understanding when I spoke to him. I told him anyone who wants to take over our headquarters must come with a court order. After we discussed the issue, they then left the place.
This comes days after the party’s reinstated Secretary General, Douglas Mwonzora, wrote to the Zimbabwe Republic Police seeking assistance in taking over the offices from the party’s faction led by Nelson Chamisa.
Chamisa and Khupe are embroiled in a fierce party stewardship battle that has seen some members of Parliament belonging to the party being recalled.
