Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a series of armed robberies and murders that occurred between May 2024 and October 2025 in Mashonaland Central Province and surrounding areas.
The suspect was apprehended following a dramatic foot chase and shooting incident in Harare.
On Friday, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that detectives from CID Homicide acted on information indicating that 40-year-old Jealous Mafuwa had been sighted at Mushayabande Park in Glen Norah, Harare. Comm. Nyathi added:
“They tracked the suspect and upon arrival at the location, the suspect attempted to flee along with his two accomplices.
“The detectives pursued the suspect and fired warning shots, however, the suspect continued to run away, prompting the officers to shoot him. The suspect was shot on the shin and subsequently apprehended.
“So far, the suspect is clearing five counts of armed robbery and a murder case.”
Nyathi said that in one of the cases, which occurred on 13 July 2025, the suspect and his accomplices, who have since been arrested, allegedly targeted a service station in Dotito.
They shot and killed the service station supervisor, used explosives to blast a safe, and stole US$2,782.
In another case on 10 May 2024, the suspect and his accomplices hired a Toyota Probox from Wadzanai Business Centre under the pretext of travelling to Montdore Mine.
Along the way, they attacked the complainant and robbed him of cash, valuables, and the vehicle.
On 27 August 2024, the suspects targeted 13 complainants at Dahwe San He Chrome Mining Site in Mvurwi, making off with US$150,000 in cash, 12 cellphones, and a Toyota Hilux single-cab vehicle.
