Zimbabwe's Wealth Must Benefit All Citizens Says VP Chiwenga

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has said that Zimbabwe’s wealth should benefit all citizens, not just a select few.

In recent months, Chiwenga has publicly criticised “zvigananda” individuals who enrich themselves and grow wealthy through corrupt practices.

He has also called for the arrest of controversial businessmen Wicknell Chivayo, Kudakwashe Tagwirei, Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya, and Delish Nguwaya, all closely associated with President Emmerson Mnangagwa, accusing them of corruption and state capture.

Addressing the 22nd ZANU PF Annual People’s Conference in Mutare on Friday, 17 October, Chiwenga urged party members to remember that the freedoms they enjoy today were secured through the sacrifices of thousands of brave Zimbabweans. He said:

“Our theme captured the central task before us, that is to build a people centred economy that empowers every Zimbabwean and ensures that our national wealth benefits all and not just a privileged few. Economic empowerment must be genuine.

“We must always remember that we are not the alpha and omega of Zimbabwe’s journey, ours is to carry forward the torch passed to us by those who gave everything without expectation of reward.

“Ours is to carry forward the torch passed to us by those who gave everything without expectation of reward.

“Some of them, like the late General Josiah Magama Tongogara, knew they would not see a liberated Zimbabwe but still fought.

“They fought for the future, not for themselves. Those camps in Mozambique and Zambia were not just military outposts — they were altars of sacrifice, where pain, courage, and faith fused into the spirit of liberation.

“They fought for the future, not for themselves, Vision 2030 therefore must be understood in the same light. It is about a Zimbabwe we will bequeath to generations to come.”
