Police Arrests Two More Ecobank Robbery Suspects

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe Republic Police has announced the arrest of 2 more suspects in the $4 Million Ecobank robbery case.

The two suspects were arrested in South Africa and are working to extradite them to Zimbabwe. Their names are Abraham Temayi Vumbunu and Elijah Temayi Vumbunu.

This brings the total of arrested suspects in the case to 3 as another was arrested just 2 days ago on 4 July.

Arrest of suspects linked to the Bulawayo Ecobank Armed Robbery Heist in South Africa

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest5 of Abraham Temayi Vumbunu and Elijah Temayi Vumbunu in connection with the $4 million Bulawayo Ecobank robbery heist which occurred on 03rd October 2024.

The suspects were arrested on 05 July 2025 in the

Republic of South Africa.

The due processes of the law are now taking effect for the suspects’ extradition to Zimbababwe.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is still pursuing the arrest of the other suspects who are linked to this case.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that comprehensive efforts to arrest all suspects who are committing criminal acts in the country and escape to neighbouring countries will be religiously pursued for the law to take its course without fear or favour.

We also urge the media to be cautious and patient in reporting the events relating to the Ecobank robbery as leads on the suspects and their activities unfold.

2 Suspects in the Ecobank October 2024 heist arrested in South Africa

The Ecobank Heist

On 3 October 2024 a group of 7 robbers pounced on an Ecobank branch in Bulawayo and made away with US $4.4 million.

The police later claimed it was likely an inside job.

The robbers were reported to have fled the country and ZRP engaged the help of Interpol.

In December police said they were nearing a breakthrough in the case.
