Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. THE Medical and Dental Private Practitioners of Zimbabwe Association (MDPPZA) has intensified efforts to strengthen its membership base, with its president Johannes Marisa calling on medical practitioners to update
their subscriptions and rally behind the body.
Marisa said the association was established as an inclusive platform to represent the interests of all private doctors and dentists across the country.
“We need to speak with one voice as private practitioners,” he said.
“MDPPZA will continue to give support to its members, but that support requires everyone to be up to date with their subscriptions. When we are united, we are stronger in engaging authorities and fighting for fair conditions.”
His remarks come at a time when private medical practitioners are concerned by the burden of astronomical council rates and what they describe as unwarranted regulatory payments to statutory boards such as the Health Professions Authority.
Marisa said MDPPZA would prioritise dialogue with relevant authorities to ease pressure on practitioners, while safeguarding the quality of healthcare delivery.
“Our members are overburdened with rates and fees that are not always justified. If left unchecked, this will compromise service delivery. That is why MDPPZA must be a united front for all private doctors and dentists in Zimbabwe,” he added.
Marisa said MDPPZA was involved in corporate social responsibility, having assisted an old people’s home in Highfield, Bako reDonhodzo with food and drugs.
The association signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Muduvuri Rehabilitation and Empowerment Foundation, which is headed by Kadoma-based businessman Jimayi Muduvuri.
The MoU was meant to deliver healthcare to vulnerable groups in society who have remained marginalised for a long time.
The association is expected to roll out awareness campaigns and stakeholder engagements to build consensus within the medical fraternity, to ensure that the voice of private practitioners is heard at the policy level.
MDPPZA is an inclusive national body of medical practitioners in private practice and consists of more than 500 members.
