Scottland FC Chairman Dismisses PSL Title Purchase Claims

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Scottland FC chairman Tonderai Sakupwanya has strongly refuted social media claims that he is attempting to “buy the PSL title” by allegedly giving Simba Bhora US$100 000

under the guise of CAF Champions League sponsorship. In a statement, he insisted the accusations are false, stressing that Scottland will fight for honours on the field of play.

Chairman’s Statement“

We have been alerted to social media claims that Scottland FC president, Pedzai Sakupwanya has given Simba Bhora FC US$100 000 ‘disguised as CAF Champions League sponsorship.’

The insinuation from some sections of social media is that it is a way of buying the PSL title race, which is currently led by Simba Bhora. It is ironic that we actually played Simba Bhora on MatchDay 28 on Saturday and were disappointed with the outcome, which kept us in second place. If we wanted to manipulate the PSL title race, we could have used that game and go top of the league table.

Simba Bhora have an existing sponsorship deal with Betterbrands, which has been there since the start of the season as seen on their kit. Part of the package includes ensuring that, as Zimbabwe’s representative in Africa, they are adequately resourced for their participation in the CAF Champions League.

This has nothing to do with Scottland FC and the ongoing PSL title race which, at this stage, involves up to four other teams.

We stand for Fair Play and will fight for the league title on the field of play. At the same time we wish Simba Bhora all the best in their CAF Champions League campaign as they fly the Zimbabwe flag.

Thank You!

Tonderai Sakupwanya

Scottland FC chairman

Scottland’s rise to the Premier Soccer League, however, was not without controversy. Their promotion was contested amid allegations of match-fixing, with claims that the club had tried to buy other teams or players to secure the Northern Region Division One title. MWOS, who were also league debutants, argued that they were the rightful champions, but Scottland maintained they had won fairly. The club has consistently dismissed the accusations as baseless.
