Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. SHAMVA Gold Mine, a member of Kuvimba Mining House, has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment through significant investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and public health initiatives.
Speaking at the commissioning of the service delivery equipment for the Chaminuka Rural District Council on Friday, Shamva Gold Mine general manager Gift Mapakame highlighted the mine’s multifaceted contributions, emphasising partnerships with local authorities and stakeholders to drive socio-economic progress.
“We have invested over half a million dollars in the past two years, partnering our local authorities and stakeholders in these initiatives,” Mapakame said.
Among these initiatives is the ongoing maintenance of the Shamva-Bindura Highway, a vital economic corridor that enhances connectivity and supports trade.
Additionally, the Wadzanai Township sewer upgrade project—now in its first phase—aims to improve sanitation, reduce waterborne diseases, and safeguard the environment by ensuring proper wastewater management.
Beyond infrastructure, the mining entity has prioritised healthcare, upgrading the Shamva District Hospital’s mortuary and wards while also conducting mobile clinic outreaches to underserved communities.
It is also constructing a hospital laundry facility.
“Our goal is to foster a healthier, more prosperous community,” Mapakame stated, underscoring the mine’s dedication to enhancing public well-being and contributing to the province’s economic growth.
Christopher Magomo, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland Central, who was the guest speaker, urged other companies to emulate the mining company.
“Shamva Gold Mine has stepped forward as a development partner, undertaking the rehabilitation of Wadzanai sewer trunk at a cost of US$24 000,” he said.
“The corporate social responsibility project that will greatly improve sanitation and public health for the growing population of Wadzanai.
“In addition, the mine has contributed US$20 000 towards the refurbishment of Shamva District Hospital and US$34 000 for the construction of a hospital laundry facility.”
