Sheasham Returns To Football After Temporary Withdrawal

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Sheasham Football Club and Sheasham Gweru Queens have confirmed their return to the ZIFA Central Region Soccer League (ZCRSL) and the Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL), respectively.

Sheasham, a former Premier Soccer League (PSL) club based in Gweru, had recently announced its withdrawal from ZCRSL, citing serious concerns about the integrity and fairness of the competition.

The club accused the league of creating an uneven playing field, a decision that came shortly after a 3–2 defeat to Midlands State University (MSU), which Sheasham suggested was influenced by unfair officiating.

Following the loss, both the men’s and women’s teams withdrew from their respective leagues, prompting action from the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).

ZIFA’s Executive Committee convened in Harare and established a special inquiry committee to investigate the circumstances behind Sheasham’s exit.

The move followed recommendations from the association’s Legal and Player Status Committee, which had met earlier that week.

In a statement issued on 09 October 2025, the clubs announced the resumption of participation following constructive discussions with football leadership stakeholders, during which concerns raised by the teams were addressed. Both clubs expressed optimism about the steps taken to resolve the issues.

Media Liaison Officer Elias Maginya said the clubs remain committed to contributing positively to the growth of football in the region and look forward to a strong and united journey ahead. The statement reads:

“Sheasham F.C. and Sheasham Gweru Queens are pleased to confirm the resumption of our participation in the ZIFA Central Region Soccer League (ZCRSL) and the Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL), respectively.

“This decision follows constructive engagements with various football leadership stakeholders, during which we had the opportunity to discuss our concerns.

“We are encouraged by the tangible steps being taken to address the issues raised and remain committed to contributing positively to the growth of the game.

“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our loyal supporters and the wider community for their unwavering passion and patience during this period.

“Your belief in the club has been our greatest motivation, and we value the encouragement and input received throughout these discussions.

“As we return to competitive action, we call upon our fans, partners, and community to continue rallying behind both teams.

“Your steadfast support remains vital to our success, and together we look forward to a strong and united journey ahead.”
