Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Controversial socialite Wicknell Chivayo has announced that he is giving US$250,000 to Zimbabwe’s national football team, the Warriors, in recognition of their performances at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite crashing out at the group stage after losing 2-1 to Egypt, drawing 1-1 with Angola, and losing 3-2 to South Africa, Chivayo praised the team’s fighting spirit, saying the narrow defeat to South Africa, while disappointing, demonstrated the Warriors’ determination and resilience.
He added that he was personally proud of the squad’s effort and growth throughout the tournament and that even without bringing the trophy home, Zimbabweans should celebrate the team, honour the goals they scored, and appreciate the pride they brought to every supporter. Chivayo added:
“I had pledged that if the Warriors win the AFCON Cup, I would definitely give them US$2 million in cash on arrival. However, all hope is not lost.
“Today I say a big congratulations to the Warriors for your effort and courage. You lifted the flag of our great Nation, and for that, I am proud to give you a small token of US$250,000.
“Zimbabwe deserves to celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small some may see them. The journey continues. Next time we come back stronger.”
