Zimbabweans Ignore Geza’s Call For Nationwide Protests

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Police have commended Zimbabweans for ignoring a call by fugitive war veteran Blessed Geza to stage demonstrations across the country on Friday, 17 October.

In a statement, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the country remained peaceful throughout the day.

The police assured the public that officers will continue to patrol residential areas, industrial zones, and Central Business Districts to ensure the safety and security of all citizens. The statement reads:

“The ZRP commends Zimbabweans for the peaceful environment which characterized the whole country today.

“The ZRP will therefore continue to patrol in all residential, industrial areas and Central Business Districts for the safety and security of the public.”

Geza had called for a nationwide protest to express his displeasure with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government, which he accuses of being influenced by a clique of alleged tenderpreneurs – Wicknell Chivayo, Pedzai Sakupwanya, and Kudakwashe Tagwirei.

The ex-combatant is also opposed to ZANU PF’s push to extend Mnangagwa’s tenure beyond his constitutionally mandated two terms, which are set to expire in 2028.

Despite the call, cities and towns across the country remained busy and bustling, as Zimbabweans largely ignored the proposed protests.

In anticipation of potential unrest, police officers were deployed to key locations in Harare, including Africa Unity Square and Robert Mugabe Square, popularly known as Freedom Square.
