Africa-Press – Angola. Part of the senior men’s national basketball team will travel, tomorrow, at 18:00, to Dubai, en route to Portugal, where the preparation work for the penultimate FIBA qualifying window for the 2023 World Cup will take place.

The information was provided to the press, on Friday, by the coordinator of the national team, Mário Abílio. On the stage of the internship, in the parish of Sangalhos, in Anadia, is already the national coach Josep “Pep” Clarós.

Of the 21 summoned, seven athletes who work abroad will join the group in Portuguese lands. They are: Bruno Fernando, Sílvio Sousa, João Fernandes, António Monteiro, Pedro Bengui, Marcos Bala and Dimitri Maconda.

For the selective African stage for next year’s World Cup, to be held from the 26th to the 28th of August, in Abidjan, capital of Côte d’Ivoire, the technical team has already prepared the preparation plan.

The intention, according to Mário Abílio, is to play at least two control games. However, as it is a closed season, the greatest difficulty for the Angolan Basketball Federation Board will be to find opponents to assess the state of readiness for the international commitment.

“There is the intention of playing two control games, in the final phase of preparation. Our biggest concern will be finding opponents because everything is at a standstill, there are no competitions in Europe, but we are working in this direction”, guaranteed Mário Abilio.

Angola is part of Group E with Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, Nigeria, Uganda and the Republic of Guinea. Côte d’Ivoire, with eight points, leads Group E, followed by Cape Verde, with seven, while the hendecacampeões occupy third place with six points. Group F is made up of teams from South Sudan, Egypt, Tunisia, DRC, Senegal and Cameroon, respectively.
