Africa-Press – Angola. Sociedade Mineira de Luana (SOMILUANA) expects to produce, as of the first quarter of this year, 12,000 carats of diamonds per month, against 10,000 produced monthly in 2022.
The information was provided Tuesday, by the deputy director of the mine, Guilherme Raimundo, stressing that in order to reach this target, the company expects to invest around US$35 million to acquire state-of-the-art equipment.
He added that with this investment, the mine expects to reach a production of 18,000 carats by December of this year.
Regarding the forecasts for 2022, the official made it known that by November 88 percent had been fulfilled.
The SOMILUANA Project, which extends over a territory of 444 square kilometers, has a reserve of two million and 600 thousand carats of indicated resources.
The mine, whose main shareholders are Endiama, with 39 percent, Trans-Hex group THG, with 33 percent and the other 28 shared by Wenji, Zakufuna and Caxinge, employs 671 workers, 6% of whom are expatriates and 94% are nationals. .
SOMILUANA explores diamonds in alluvial form, in the various blocks/fronts of the hydrographic basin of the Luana River, which runs through the south center towards the north of the municipality of Lucapa.
