Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial secretary of the Angolan Women’s Organization (OMA) in Benguela, Maria da Graça, yesterday reaffirmed the commitment of the female branch of the MPLA in the fight for the rights of the female class and its affirmation.
The official was speaking at a mass event in the municipality of Cubal, alluding to the 10th of January, the day the organization was founded.
According to Maria da Graça, on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of existence, the aim is to publicize the historical trajectory of OMA and the work carried out in favor of the promotion of gender equality.
Reflecting on women’s participation in politics in Angola, as well as on the challenges to achieve greater representation in leadership bodies, are among the challenges of OMA, according to the secretary.
On the other hand, he defended the continued appreciation and contribution of women to the economic, political, social and cultural development of the country.
For the leader of OMA, it is imperative to honor all women who face the challenges of modern times, which requires a more dynamic organization, making it democratically strong and cohesive, capable of making a decisive contribution and ensuring the full exercise of human rights of the woman.
Considers that throughout its 61 years of existence, OMA has been actively engaged in mobilizing women to be actively involved in the maintenance of independence, peace and economic and social development in the country, as well as in electoral processes and consolidation of democracy.
Maria da Graça stated that currently women actively assume their participation in the various processes taking place in the country, making their ideals reflect in the ruling party’s decisions regarding the condition of young and rural women, encouraging them to conquer their space in society, towards equality, development and inclusion.
The Organization of Angolan Women was founded on January 10, 1962, in the current city of Kinshasa, DR Congo.
The central provincial act will take place next weekend, in the municipality of Balombo.
