UNE-Angola proposes more funds for Health and Education

Africa-Press – Angola. The president of the National Union of Students of Angola (UNE-Angola), Mário Fernandes, proposed this Tuesday, in Luanda, an increase in the budget for the 2023 OGE for the Health and Education sectors, in particular Higher Education.

Speaking to the press, at the end of a meeting with members of the organisation, to collect suggestions to be presented to the deputies, he suggested that the Executive cut expenses in some areas, to correspond to this intention.

He proposed, for example, the reduction of funds intended for the purchase of vehicles to support public office holders, stressing that they have already received subsidies from their affiliates represented in Russia, China, Turkey, Cuba and Portugal.

The draft State General Budget Law for the 2023 fiscal year (OGE-2023) will be discussed and voted, in general terms, at the 3rd Extraordinary Plenary Meeting of the National Assembly, scheduled for the 13th of this month.

The Executive’s financial forecast text, the first of the current five-year term (2022-2027), was delivered to Parliament on December 9, 2022. It includes expenses and revenues estimated at 20.1 billion kwanzas.

According to the Executive, the proposal will fundamentally fulfill two objectives, specifically the “continuation of the country’s economic growth and the continuation of prudent budgetary management”.

To this end, it prioritizes the social sector, with a weight of 23.9 percent over total OGE expenditure, with an estimated reference price of US$75 per barrel of oil and an average oil production of 1.18 million barrels/ day.
