Africa-Press – Angola. Revenue from Motor Vehicle Tax (IVM), charged in 2022, reached 3.8 billion kwanzas, with an increase of around 10% compared to that charged in 2021.

In the first year in which this annual tax began to be collected, in 2021, after the Circulation Tax was revoked, in 2020, the General Tax Administration (AGT) collected 3.4 billion kwanzas for the State coffers.

In a press conference this Wednesday, the Director of Tax Services at AGT, Denis Barbosa, recalled that the IVM is already in charge, in the period that goes from 01 January to 31 June of this year.

According to the official, of the amount collected in 2022, 2.7 billion kwanzas was the tax paid by owners of light and heavy cars, 43.3 million kz for motor vehicles, 259.8 million kz of aircraft and 745 kz , 1 million vessels.

Currently, according to Denis Barbosa, the AGT registration system controls 587,819 vehicles, including cars (light and heavy), aircraft, boats and motorcycles throughout the country, whose owners pay their tax obligations.

Of that number, 164 are aircraft, 2 252 vessels, 476 007 light cars, 62 224 heavy vehicles and 47 172 motorcycles.

Without advancing figures, he admitted the existence of vehicles that are still circulating without showing proof of payment of the tax, a situation that relies on the Traffic Police to hold accountable those who do not comply.

If before a stopped car or an accident car did not pay the circulation tax, with the IVM, as a tax, the opposite happens, unless the owner subscribes that it does not return to the road.

“All vehicles that are registered and registered in Angola are subject to the payment of the IVM”, reiterated Denis Barbosa, recalling that the payment does not necessarily imply the circulation of the vehicle.

The State, municipalities, political parties, diplomatic and consular missions, when there is reciprocity of treatment, international organisations, vehicles adapted for people with physical disabilities and tractors intended for agriculture are exempt from the IVM.

Exemption from payment of IVM does not remove the obligation to register.
