Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, met this Sunday with his counterpart from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, having analyzed the strengthening of bilateral cooperation.

The meeting, behind closed doors, took place at the Palace of the Nation, the official residence of the President of the UAE since 2004.

João Lourenço arrived Sunday in Abu Dhabi to participate in the Sustainability Week, a forum dedicated to the environment.

The agenda of the Angolan Head of State foresees, for Monday, the participation in the opening ceremony of the Sustainability Week.

On Tuesday, João Lourenço will speak about the production of clean energy in Africa in a panel that will also include the Presidents of Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya.

Development of bilateral relations

In 2019, Angola and the United Arab Emirates signed a reciprocal investment protection agreement.

The governments of both countries ratified the Convention to avoid double taxation and tax evasion.

The said agreement entered into force in March 2020.

The two States maintain close ties of cooperation in sectors such as oil and gas, trade, investment, energy, defence, transport, agriculture, fisheries, banking, telecommunications and finance.
