Africa-Press – Angola. Four high voltage towers that carry electricity from the Mabubas hydroelectric dam to the Capari substation, in Caxito, Bengo province, were vandalized this month by unidentified individuals.
The presumed offenders removed more than 120 metal beams that support the towers, putting around 2,500 families in the Porto Kipiri, centrality of Capari and Panguila at risk, on the verge of being left in the dark, informed the press today, the director of the office of communication and institutional relations of ENDE, Lauro Fortunato.
At the moment, ENDE is making efforts to replace the stolen parts and avoid constraints in the supply of energy to families in the said areas, said the person in charge at the end of a verification and inspection visit to the said lines.
He assured that the inspection work will continue on the remaining high voltage energy transmission lines in the municipalities of Dande and Ambriz, underlining that steps are being taken by the National Police to locate and detain the offenders.
The visit to the energy transmission lines was witnessed by the director of Maintenance of Medium and High Voltage in the Luanda-Bengo region, Leonardo de Castro, members of the municipal administration of Dande and the National Police.
