Africa-Press – Angola. The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Filipe Zau, reaffirmed this Thursday, in Mbanza Kongo, province of Zaire, his sector’s commitment to training staff for more efficient management of related infrastructures.
The minister made this statement while speaking at the opening of a meeting with members of the Participatory Management Committee of the historic center of Mbanza Kongo, which, among other matters, analyzes the report on UNESCO recommendations.
According to Filipe Zau, it is the sector’s intention to hire technicians to help train staff capable of ensuring the management and functioning of institutions linked to the field of culture and tourism all over the country.
He said that the shortage of trained staff in the areas mentioned above has hampered the normal functioning of the institutions attached to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, a situation that he wants to see reversed in the near future.
By the way, he said that his sector will, in partnership with the Government of the Province of Zaire, invest in the training of local youth, with a view to contributing to attracting more tourists and raising revenue for the State coffers.
For the official, Mbanza Kongo is the country’s cultural capital, which makes it imperative to work to rescue the cultural identity of Angolans, despite the influence of new technologies that try to divert the new generations.
“It is from Mbanza Kongo that we must have our references for the development of national culture and tourism”, he reaffirmed.
Governor defends training of staff in archeology
In turn, the governor of Zaire, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, defended the training of staff in the fields of archaeology, history and conservation of monuments and sites so that they can contribute to the management of the historical and cultural wealth of the World Heritage city.
From the range of concerns presented to the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, he also requested the approval of the status of the Museum of the Kings of Kongo, the restoration of the old cathedral (Kulumbimbi), as well as the construction of a new museum of the Kingdom of Kongo.
Before going to the city of Mbanza Kongo, Filipe Zau worked Wednesday in the municipality of Soyo, in the region’s coastal zone, where he announced the training, later this year, of staff from the provinces of Zaire and Uíge at the hotel-school, located in city of Cabinda.
The 48-hour visit to Zaire by the Minister of Culture and Tourism includes visits to historic sites and monuments in the city of Mbanza Kongo, as well as to the Comandante Bula cultural centre, which is undergoing rehabilitation.
It also includes visits to some social and economic projects under construction in the district, with emphasis on the work on the new Mbanza Kongo airport and the General Hospital of Zaire.
