Africa-Press – Angola. The need to continue working to strengthen existing cooperation ties between the Angolan Government and the European Union (EU) was defended this Friday, in Cunene province, by the Minister of Economy and Planning, Mário Caetano João.

The minister made this statement at the opening of the sixth meeting of the steering committee of the project for Strengthening Resilience and Food and Nutritional Security in Angola (Fresan).

On the occasion, Mário Caetano João highlighted the cooperation agreement worth 65 million euros to help people affected by drought in the provinces of Cunene, Huíla and Namibe.

He said it was crucial to continue working on strengthening existing ties between the Angolan Government and international development partners, in providing financial resources.

Mário Caetano also highlighted the Portuguese cooperation in the implementation of Fresan, in order to find solutions that help to mitigate the illness that affects thousands of Angolans in these regions of the country.

In this sense, he emphasized that the Government intends to use cooperation investments and other different modalities to reinforce public and private productive capacity, oriented towards sustained production and import substitution.

He said that Angola has been the object of attention by countries and international development agencies, due to the economic reforms that have been implemented and which aim to increase transparency.

He justified that these have been factors in attracting foreign investment and Angola’s credibility with financing institutions.

He added that Fresan is a reflection of the cooperation relations between the Republic of Angola and the European Union, in strengthening the reconstruction of economic and social infrastructures that the Government has been implementing.

The minister praised the work carried out in the implementation of the policy, programs and development projects in Angola, whose actions are enshrined in the National Development Plan, as a guiding document and director of structural transformations.

With the deadline for execution until August 2024, the project is intervening in four thematic components such as sustainable family farming, improvement of nutrition and access to water, institutional reinforcement and the clinical trial/research on chronic malnutrition.
