Africa-Press – Angola. Twelve citizens who were trapped in the Luzia penitentiary, in Saurimo (Lunda Sul), were released Saturday, under the Amnesty and Pardon Law, approved by the National Assembly on 15 December last.
The aforementioned law forgives all common crimes committed by national or foreign citizens, between November 12, 2015 and November 11, 2022, with prison sentences of up to eight years, except for crimes committed with violence and resulting in death. .
Speaking at the release ceremony, judge Rosalino Miguel Domingos said that the pardon constitutes an opportunity for the reintegration of former prisoners into the family, in order to make a positive contribution to the development of the country.
He recommended to the beneficiaries of the amnesty and pardon law not to commit more crimes.
He informed that other prisoners could benefit from freedom or reduction of sentences, in the coming days, within the framework of this law.
In a message, the inmates committed themselves to putting into practice the knowledge acquired in prison, within the framework of professional training.
The act was witnessed by magistrates, members of the Government and family members of the prisoners.
With a penal population of 481 inmates, of which 291 are convicts and 190 are detained, the Luzia prison is 20 kilometers from the city of Saurimo and has an arts and crafts area, women’s and men’s blocks, a medical center, laundry, cafeterias, industrial kitchen, bakery, among others.
