Africa-Press – Angola. The retrospective of the life of Angolans based on the positive and negative occurrences of everyday life is portrayed in a joyful way in the most recent exhibition of painting by Guilherme Mampuya, on ferrous material called “Smiley”, to be opened tomorrow at 15:00 at Club S, at the Mussulo pier, in Luanda.

The painter explained that the theme arises from the popularity of graphic representations of “emojis” used to convey an idea, emotion or feeling.

In the exhibition, he said, several popular ideograms are used. often exploited in electronic messages to express emotions at the worsening social situation that has negatively inhibited the growth of world economies, particularly in the country, in the last two years, due to the emergence of Covid-19 and its variants.

In his observation, “with the dynamics registered with the emergence of new cutting-edge technologies, imaginative creativity has been withdrawn to give expression to ideograms that synthesize themes that could be described, which have the merit of expressing through simple symbols what comes to mind .”

Guilherme Mampuya highlighted that the works to be exhibited represent a mixture of feelings, lost and won opportunities, sadness and joy, characterized in the paintings produced with steel cutouts in shades of cold and warm colors that symbolize love on the eve of Valentine’s Day. Saint Valentine, marked on the 14th of February.

The intention, he said, was to produce works that also reflect the importance of rescuing the African cultural matrix, respect for elders, the appreciation of the common heritage and mother tongues, as well as the search for self-determination to what can be considered as feeling of belonging to the values that intrinsically unite Angolans culturally.

The exhibition, which is on view until the 28th of this month, is made up of 14 paintings developed in an unusual technique, painting on steel plate. Guilherme Mampuya exclusively uses top tech water enamel paint for iron.

According to the painter, this show was a challenge, in which he tried to use an unusual technique, but it has a great advantage: sun exposure. “The pieces or paintings can be placed in the backyard, for example. It resists the weather, such as rain, sun and dust”, said the artist.
