Angola defends greater bet on youth

Africa-Press – Angola. The Vice-President of the Republic, Bornito de Sousa, defended, Wednesday (16), in Brussels, Belgium, a greater commitment to the youth of the African, Caribbean and Pacific States in order to avoid fleeing to other parts of the world. in search of better opportunities.

Bornito de Sousa presented the suggestion during the special session of the Committee of Ambassadors of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), whose secretary general is the Angolan Georges Rebelo Chikoti.

“If we want to radically transform our countries, we have to invest in the training of our young people, in the areas of Technologies and Vocational Training, so that they can be the great engine of development and transformation in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific”, he stressed. .

The Vice-President of the Republic said that the country will take the opportunity to highlight, within the framework of the European Union – African Union Summit, which starts today in that city, when it participates in the round table on Education, Culture, Vocational Training, Migration and Mobility, the engagement and the importance of investing in youth. To this end, he said he was counting on the support and consensus of OACPS ambassadors for the issue linked to Education. He pointed out that African, Caribbean and Pacific countries generally have great potential in terms of raw materials, natural resources, minerals and water.

“We have everything to be a success. Why, then, do young people in Africa, in particular, seek to escape to Europe, the United States and elsewhere? What is it that we are missing, to be successful within the our countries?” he asked.

Bornito de Sousa, who represents the President of the Republic at the European Union – African Union Summit, pointed out as one of the ways to invert this situation the creation of infrastructures in the OACPS countries, which connect the various internal regions of the countries themselves. “We know, for example, that, sometimes, to go from one point in Africa to another point in Africa, you have to go through Europe. What is missing for us to do all this?”, he asked.

He urged the need to transform cocoa, whose production in African, Caribbean and Pacific States is considerable, as another solution to this problem. Regarding the commitment to youth Education, in order to avoid fleeing to other parts of the world, Bornito de Sousa highlighted the commitment to Education, training and empowering young people, in order to transform the products produced and, through this, create jobs. , within the framework of entrepreneurship in their own countries. “What we lack is to invest, seriously, in Education and Vocational Training. But the element that I want to highlight here, for which I ask for support and consensus, is that we do not need a Generic Education”, he said.

Regarding Angola’s participation in the round table on Peace, Security and Governance, still within the framework of the Summit, he informed that the country will highlight the commitment of the President of the Republic in the search and preservation of regional stability in the Great Lakes, in Southern Africa and Central. At the end of the meeting, the Vice-President of the Republic signed the organization’s book of honor, as well as presented a “Pensador”, a symbol of the Lunda Cokwe culture. On the occasion, he reaffirmed Angola’s role in the organization of the 10th OACPS Heads of State and Government Summit, which will take place in December this year in Luanda.

On the other hand, Bornito de Sousa visited the premises of the Chancellery, the Embassy and the future premises of the Consular Diplomatic Mission. In the consular sector, the Vice-President of the Republic was informed about the progress of the process of accession of the Identity Card and the Official Registration.
