Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan writer Jacques dos Santos defended, recently, in Luanda, the rapid implementation, in Angola, of the National Reading Plan.

In an interview, within the framework of World Book Day, marked on 23 April, the former parliamentarian said that projects linked to the spread of reading habits exist, but “there has been a lack of will” to implement them.

“ How long have we heard about the National Reading Plan? The projects exist, but they have been shelved for a long time”, vented Jacques dos Santos.

In his opinion, if there was a will, “the budgets for Education would receive other budgetary levels, and there would be, on the part of the Union of Angolan Writers, another posture”.

The National Reading Plan (PNL) is a strategy of the Angolan Executive that aims to promote the taste and habit of reading and writing, aimed at children, including pre-school students, as well as primary and secondary education.

The Ministry of Education intends, with this project, to respond to the challenges of improving school performance in the fields of reading and writing.

It also intends to facilitate the access of school communities to cultural diversity and to stimulate critical analysis, with the involvement of society and teaching material from different authors and themes that children can read in schools.
