Africa-Press – Angola. “The Diplomatic Agenda 2022 – Testimony of a new paradigm of doing diplomacy” is the title of the historical work that reflects the diplomatic dynamics of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the affirmation of Angola’s interests in the international arena.
The 112-page book, presented on Friday, sponsored by Mirex, by the Minister Counselor and Director of the Institutional Communication and Press Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, António Nascimento, addresses, in general, the agenda of work of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, from January to December 2022, and his performance in different diplomatic contexts, from bilateral to multilateral, in the country and abroad, often as special envoy of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço .
Prefaced by the Permanent Representative of Angola to the United Nations, in New York, Francisco da Cruz, the author provides an overview of the principles, objectives and priorities of Angolan diplomatic activity, within the framework of the growing influence and international importance of Angola, being in permanent consonance with the dynamics of the opportunities and challenges of today’s world.
In the preface, Ambassador Francisco da Cruz emphasizes that society lives today in an increasingly globalized world, where the rapid and profound evolution of information and communication technologies alter the scope of the paradigm of traditional diplomacy, which includes instruments through which States establish or maintain relationships with each other, expanding the concept and forms of intervention.
The Permanent Ambassador at UN Headquarters in New York highlights the impact of the media on what is your day-to-day, influencing political and diplomatic relations with the communication system in interactive horizontal networks to increase and facilitate the dissemination of information.
On the global stage, says Francisco da Cruz, political leaders and diplomats have increasingly used media platforms to share ideas, positions and convey messages effectively to their counterparts, thus creating opportunities for more dynamic relationships. among States and of comprehensive international cooperation with reciprocal advantages.
The ambassador adds that the author intends to demonstrate, through photographic reports and the use of social networks, the dissemination of events and facts of this ministerial department, which also included activities of the Angolan diplomatic missions, as well as the use of new information technologies. as an intervention model and diplomatic action procedures more in line with the current dynamics of the implementation of Angola’s foreign policy, particularly in the creation of relations and crisis management.
The book also offers an overview of the principles, objectives and priorities of Angolan diplomatic activity within the scope of the country’s growing influence and international importance, in “consonance with the dynamics of opportunities and challenges arising from the world in which we live”.
Diplomacy focused on attracting investment
The first chapter of the book addresses the “role of Angolan diplomacy”, with a focus on attracting investment. foreign investment, in order to contribute to the diversification of the national economy.In this chapter, Téte António also pointed out the importance of a strong investment in the tourism area and the exploration of new markets for the export of national products, within of the Production Support, Export Diversification and Import Replacement Program (PRODESI).
He made clear the desire for the African Continental Free Trade Area to be transformed into a true space for economic cooperation, capable of facilitating trade between different countries and businessmen, achieving the development of the region.
The book “The Diplomatic Agenda 2022- Testimony of a new paradigm of doing diplomacy” also portrays the moment when the head of Angolan diplomacy expressed Angola’s desire to continue working with the specialized agencies of the United Nations in the search for greater representation of the African continent in the main international bodies and in the resolution of the conflicts that continue to devastate the Southern, Central and Great Lakes regions.
Firm measures to discourage coups d’état
The book recalls, in one of the chapters, Angola’s position in the face of the growing cases of unconstitutional regime changes on the African continent, with recourse to military force, defending the implementation of firmer measures to discourage these practices and hold their authors accountable.
The position was expressed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, during the 35th ordinary session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, during which he mentioned the last attempted coup d’état in Guinea-Bissau, reiterating the solidarity of the Angolan Government to the legitimate authorities of that country.
The visit to Angola by the US Assistant Secretary of State, Wendy Sherman, in May last year, is also highlighted in this book, which highlights the Executive’s intention to continue to privilege a new model of cooperation with the United States based on the promotion of political dialogue on the main international issues and the creation of objective conditions for the broadening and deepening of bilateral relations in the most varied areas of common interest.
The visit by Wendy Sherman, who was accompanied by the Secretary of State for African Affairs, Molly Catherine Phee, aimed at deepening the strategic partnership between Angola and the United States, particularly in the areas of regional security, economic prosperity, governance and human rights. The author highlights, on one of the pages, the figure of the former President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, the first head of diplomacy in independent Angola, who died in July last year, in Spain.
