Luanda Governor Urges Youth to Contribute to Development

Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Zaire province, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, urged young people on Tuesday in Luanda to become increasingly involved in the country’s economic development.

According to the politician, who was honored today with the Peace and Development medal commemorating 50 years of independence, the youth must work without hesitation or discouragement for the country’s development.

“We want to see Angola progress, and therefore, I ask all young people to dedicate themselves fully, without causing trouble. We all face difficult challenges, but we can overcome them. Therefore, I ask you to remain calm,” he stated.

Son of nationalist Agostinho André Mendes de Carvalho “Uanhenga Xitu,” the governor expressed gratitude for being awarded the medal commemorating 50 years of National Independence, to be celebrated on November 11th.

Adriano Mendes de Carvalho considered the award gratifying.

“I feel deeply satisfied, but I see it as a tribute that extends to all those who accompanied me on my journey, in the various places I visited and in the responsibilities entrusted to me,” he added.

Adriano André Mendes de Carvalho dedicated the tribute to his collaborators and, especially, to the memory of his parents.

For his part, the parish priest of the Luanda Cathedral, Antero Beji, also praised the awarding of the medal commemorating the 50th anniversary of national independence.

“We were honored for what we were able to accomplish, for demonstrating our love for the country,” he said.

He urged young people to value the past, live in the present, and plan for the future.

“Our lives need a foundation, a point of reference. Without it, we get lost. The past serves as a point of reference, to correct what has been distorted in these 50 years and seek a better Angola, a greater well-being for all of us,” he said.

He added that the Church’s mission has always been not only to save souls, but to care for the whole person, the human being. “This human being, whether faithful, Christian, or not, is the person to whom God has entrusted a mission here on earth.”

This fifth edition plans to honor a total of 743 individuals, including 100 with the commemorative medal in the Independence class and 643 in the Peace and Development class.

The awards, which are being awarded in several stages throughout the current year, aim to recognize the legacy of dedication and service to the nation. The process takes place within the scope of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence, under Law 2/25, of March 18, which institutes the Commemorative Medal Alluding to the occasion.
