Africa-Press – Angola. The country’s current economic context should be seen as an opportunity for families to seek new sources of income, making the most of savings and rationalizing consumption habits, defended today, Monday, in Lubango, economist Alex Bernardo .
In an interview, the professor at the Faculty of Economics at the Mandume ya Ndemufayo University said it was important for Angolans to seek new opportunities to circumvent shortages, through new sources of income, avoiding exclusive dependence on wages.
In order to maintain the economic levels of the families, the also director of the Planning Studies and Statistics office of the Lubango Administration, said it was necessary to opt for less costly consumption habits, preferably for what is necessary and healthy, avoiding superfluous spending as much as possible.
“The family can stop consuming steak and replace it with chicken or fish, which is cheaper, as long as it is a product that satisfies almost all needs, but does not prevent spending less, depending on the current context of austerity”, stressed.
The diversification of sources of income, according to the interviewee, also involves simple expenses and the practice of small businesses, depending on the needs of the communities.
In turn, António Francisco, 57 years old, who is head of a family of seven members, said that the current economic context requires a rationalization of monthly income, as there is a considerable loss of purchasing power.
For the citizen it is necessary to consume only the fundamentals, for example, he said if the family stopped the habit of going to the cinema at the weekend, opting for once a month.
“Families have lost purchasing power since basic Friday prices underwent a major change in the informal market, but even so, there are ways to get around the difficulties, through a review of consumption habits”, he pointed out.
