FILDA 2023: Angolan company invests in new cardboard box industry

Africa-Press – Angola. The Nahle Group invested US$2 million in January this year in a new cardboard box industry with capacity to produce 1,000 tons a day, said president Hassaim Nahle yesterday.

The new industry, called Big Pack, joins others in the Nahle Group that produce metal structures, tubes and sheets.

With the new venture, 600 jobs were created.

Big Pack, according to the businessman, is showing strong growth and supplies products to several companies in the food sector, mainly for packaging pasta and biscuits.

As for the raw material, he said that the company acquires the material for brown boxes in the country, as there is already local production, but for white boxes it buys from Germany.

“I am pleased that there is currently an internal production of raw material that has facilitated the manufacture of brown boxes, as the white ones still need to be imported from Germany and Belgium”, said the interlocutor.

On the other hand, he expressed the intention of, in the coming years, producing to export to countries in the Southern region and, in this way, internationalizing his production. To this end, he spoke of the need to stabilize the exchange rate in order to facilitate the production and export process.

“The high price of foreign exchange and the 14% VAT rate hamper the company’s current production, so it is expected that the Executive will make a greater effort to stabilize the currency”, augured the businessman.

The Luanda International Fair (FILDA) runs from the 18th to the 22nd of June. 1,302 national and foreign businessmen are taking part in the event. Foreign participation this year includes South African, Italian, German, Japanese, Brazilian, Indonesian, Turkish and Portuguese businessmen and an institutional participation by the US Embassy.
