Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan ambassador to Ethiopia and the African Union (AU), Miguel Bembe, and his Zambian counterpart, RoseKashembe Sakala, highlighted this Tuesday, in Addis Ababa, the importance of peace and security in regional integration agendas.
According to a press release from the Embassy of Angola in Ethiopia, the two diplomats undertook to monitor cooperation and collaboration actions in the fields of peace and security at the level of regional organizations to which both countries are integrated.
At the meeting at the premises of the Diplomatic Mission of Angola, the also representative of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and his interlocutor, concluded, within the framework of bilateral cooperation, that it was necessary to increase economic cooperation, in particular, with the revitalization of the Lobito Corridor.
The importance of the construction project for the Angola-Zambia road, across the Jimbe-Mwinulunga border and the Mapelenga (Malundo)-Sikongo road, was also highlighted.
The construction aims to fill in the lack of transport infrastructure destined to connect the two countries by road.
On the occasion, the diplomats consider that it is essential to increase the volume of trade and investment between the two countries as a way of contributing to the improvement of the quality of life of the respective citizens.
Ambassadors Miguel Bembe and Rose Kashembe Sakala underlined the importance of implementing the 6 (six) existing legal instruments between Angola and Zambia, namely in the areas of political diplomacy, infrastructure, justice, education and trade.
Angola and Zambia share a border of 1,110 kilometers and are members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) as well as the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICRGL).
