Afrocups: Any opponent deserves our respect - Roque Sapiri

Africa-Press – Angola. The coach of Sagrada Esperança in Lunda Norte, Roque Sapiri, said this Thursday that any opponent who crosses the path of the “Lundas” in the second and last round of access to the group stage of the Nelson Mandela Cup, “will have the respect it deserves”.

Reacting to the decision of the Confederation of African Football to exempt the club in the first round of access to the group stage, Roque Sapiri said he has no preference in terms of opponent and that the team is being prepared to face any contender.

“In this competition, the technical quality of the opponents should not be devalued or belittled because everyone is growing and aspires to reach the group stage and we do not have an opponent of preference”, he stressed.

Regarding the two possible opponents, Roque Sapiri said he only knew Ferroviário de Maputo and that a team was already scouting for Belle Lumiere in the Comoros Islands.

He reiterated that one of the team’s objectives for the next football season is to pass the group stage of this competition.

In the 2022/23 season, Sagrada Esperança did not qualify for the group stage of this competition, after being eliminated in the first round by Saint-Éloi Lupopo from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In the first game the “Lundas” lost by 2-0 and in the second match they tied (0-0).
