Africa-Press – Angola. The United States of America (USA) will continue to work with Angola with the aim of helping with the inclusion of people with disabilities through sport, said the American ambassador to the country, Tulinabo Mushingi.
The diplomat, who was speaking on Wednesday night, in Luanda, during the delivery of certificates of merit to participants in a training course in the US, recognized, however, that the inclusion of this class does not end with sport.
Afirmou ser necessário garantir que essas pessoas tenham acesso à educação, oportunidades económicas e que se sintam seguras para coabitar nas respectivas comunidades.
Para o efeito, Tulinabo Mushingi, que responde também pela diplomacia americana em São Tome e Príncipe, considerou necessário estruturas fortes e governação de qualidade, e defendeu a contínua colaboração entre os dois Estados enquanto decisores e catalisadores da mudança.
Já a secretaria de Estado para os Desportos, Teresa Ulundo, referiu que a inclusão das pessoas com deficiências em todas as esferas da sociedade, particularmente pela via desportiva, é prioritária para o Governo de Angola.
Lembrou que fruto do empenho governamental, por via do Ministério da Juventude e Desportos, hoje, em Angola, os resultados desportivos demonstram o sucesso do trabalho.
He cited, as an example, the former sprinter José Sayovo, who became famous with gold medals in the Paralympic Games and World Championships, in addition to the amputee football team, world champion and vice-champion.
Representatives from Angola, São Tomé and Príncipe and Mozambique participated in the social inclusion training programme.
José Sayovo (world record holder in the 100, 200 and 400 meters at the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games), the guide athlete Daniel Cardoso, the president of the Huambo Paralympic Association, Jaime Chilala, and four physical education teachers said they were part of the training action.
