Africa-Press – Angola. The challenges of African women in resolving conflicts in society was, this Thursday, in Ondjiva, the subject of a round table, promoted by the Social Action, Family and Gender Equality office in Cunene province.

Speaking at the end of the meeting, the director of Social Action in Cunene, Georgina Braga, highlighted the participation of women in peacekeeping processes and conflict resolution in society and in the family.

He said that women have been contributing to the promotion and protection of human rights in conflict and post-conflict areas, economic empowerment and education, in favor of the social well-being of families.

He recalled that they still experience great barriers, hence the need to continue to invest in knowledge for their affirmation and active participation in leadership positions, in the province, country and on the continent.

“The Executive has created policies for women’s empowerment and gender equality, as well as strengthening their participation in decision-making”, he said.

The official clarified that the meeting, which brought together women from various social strata, made it possible to discuss the challenges and problems they face every day.

Georgina Braga appealed to the victims to denounce all types of aggression to the institutions dedicated to this purpose, in order to be more protected.

The event is part of the commemorative days of the 31st of July, African Women’s Day, established in 1962 at the Conference of African Women, in Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania.

This celebration is recognized in a total of 14 countries and also by eight National Liberation Movements.
