Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan government is preparing to announce, in September this year, the international tender for the management of the New Luanda International Airport (NAIL).

The inauguration of the airport is scheduled for December this year, according to the Minister of Transport, Ricardo d ́Abreu.

“We are preparing the necessary pieces for the launch of the international competition. We should launch this international tender in September 2023”, reiterated the minister to the Angolan press, as part of a visit to China to finalize details with officials of the company that is building the New Luanda International Airport.

Companies specialized in the management of international airports around the world are expected for the tender, the Government already has some “targets with whom we would like to work and who have also expressed interest”.

The Angolan Government’s intention, according to the Transport official, is to begin the operation of the New International Airport through the transport of cargo and then proceed with the other subsequent phases.

As for the execution of the works, he reiterated that they are taking place at a “good pace”, justifying his visit to China, which served to finalize technical details, such as technological issues, equipment to be placed along the airport infrastructure and others, for the operationalization of the airport within the foreseen dates.

He stated that it was Angola’s intention to become a country that facilitates trade and promotes development, looking at relations with China that will allow expanding the field of action, whether in the training chapter or in the construction of “large” infrastructures important.

“There is a considerable number of staff undergoing training in China who should return to Angola and who will be able to support the technological part. There is a complementarity between our economies that must be materialized with “win-win” initiatives”, said Ricardo d ́Abreu.

In terms of NAIL’s airport plan, the land reserve has foreseen the construction of a logistics center of 250 hectares, which will support all cargo handling activity (import and export) at the new airport, which is one of the pillars of its viability .

Certification process in parameters Regarding the NAIL certification process, the Minister of Transport assured that it is taking place in three phases, the first being aimed at transferring the airport from the contract phase to the operation phase.

The second initiative concerns the certification itself, whose fundamental role is played by ANAC-Autoridade Nacional de Aviação Civil, which will certify the airport, in a process that follows certain stages, while the third and last initiative is the design of the new airport.

“From a strategic point of view, the Executive decided that the airport will be conceived as an international entity with an unquestionable reputation and operational technical capacity”, he underlined.

He reiterated that the Office for Operationalization of the New Luanda International Airport announced two weeks ago the opening of candidacy for functions of the new airport.

With the announcement made, young professionals will be needed to ensure the functioning of the NAIL.
